Yes I know that this isn't the month of Halloween but this block was made in October when I was visiting the US. don't you think the eyes remind you of those eyes you see in Halloween posters and cards plus in the background of all spooky cartoon?

As a child my family loved to play Monopoly. I however loathed this game as it was always cut throat. Chinese Checkers on the hand, even with everyone's desperate desire to win, was not so. Even if you lost you had to have taken off some of your opponent's marbles.

Winter Blossoms

 I just love those blossoms that appear towards the end of Winter .. cherry blossoms and others. I suppose the Japanese fabric suggested the title for this one. Oh it isn't that hard a block ... give it a try.

BOM 34 - Follow Your Heart

This is one of the few applique blocks in Raconteur. The title and absence of many applique blocks reflects my attitude to this technique. I don't enjoy applique but adore piecing and so following my heart I do as little as possible. The star was reverse appliqued from the centre of the block to signify taking away rather than adding to.

BOM 32 - Kew Gardens

Time for the next block of the month and for those people who enjoy hand work this is a perfect one for you. Kew Gardens needs a bit of care when placing the pieces but if you follow the step by step diagrams it should be a piece of cake.... albeit a small one. Oh and the block is straight. The camera wasn't!

I thoroughly enjoyed making this block and although to any knowledgeable person it looks nothing like the hammer and sickle, it still suggested that Russian symbol to me.

This month it comes from Collection 29 and like all of the other blocks from this collection Algae Blooms is hand pieced. What a relaxing way to spend an evening. BOM 26 - Consternation

Consternation or concern..will I use it or discard it? When making this block and several others I didn't realise that the triangular middle would mean that the block would sit better on point. However in Raconteur the individual blocks are actually sitting flat. when I at first realised this I had already made about ten or so blocks as so had to decide replace them or leave them...... I was feeling lazy at the time and so they remained.

BOM 24 - Ribbons Aflutter

Don't the small floral fabrics used in this block remind you of the times as a child when you held some long ribbons in your hand as you ran around and they fluttered in the wind behind you?

BOM 23 - Sweet Caress

The free BOM for this month is a hand pieced gem. It was one of my early ones of moving into combining circles with different outers. Although I pieced the whole of this block I know that many others are choosing to appliqué the circle over the top of the otherwise completed block. We all have our own preferred methods.

BOM 22- Nuclear Free

WOW I can't believe there are people still going with this. Although I enjoyed making Raconteur my application came and went. It took me six years to make and whenever I sewed it I must admit I loved it, but my interest did fluctuate at times. I can remember one time I made two or three blocks a day, every day for a few weeks. Then I came to my senses and resumed a sensible schedule...of making lots of different quilts at the one time :)

Well here is the BOM for September, Nuclear Free. The name is obvious from the nuclear symbol. I always found it odd as we drive to Sydney there is a sign up saying nuclear free zone. I wonder if the people there are also against the radiation therapy used for cancer etc. There are negative sides and positive sides to most things.
