This is going to be a great week for anyone surfing.Here, as promised is a photo of my quilt made using my block Khanam's Surprise. As I said previously my machine pedal has died and I am awaiting replacement so I haven't had a chance to add the borders to add the borders to finish it off.
My quilt also extends further than the photo but the shadow effect was so drastic I had to cut it out... I'm glad I don't make a living as a photographer.Some of my other designs may be seen on my website Cinzia White Designs. There is even a photo of a qult I designed using a variation of my block, Isobel's Flight, from the last issue of QM 100 Blocks. I can't wait to see the finished quilt which Isobel has made and will be hanging at the next NSW Qulit Show in Sydney in June.
The block design is a compilation of designs from some mosques. I was actually working on a third design which I preferred but it wouldn't work and this one suddenly fell out. The name came from my son's girlfriend Khanam and the fact that when she sees it she will be surprised. I am sending her a magazine as a gift and haven't told either of them about it.
Quiltmaker is providing one copy of the magazine to someone who enters my 'competition', which is simple enough.. you have the choice.... any one of the following three actions will give you an entry into the competition.
1. what do you think would be a good name for this quilt?
2. what kind of border do you think would suit this quilt the best?
3. or simply leave your name.
Although the winner will be chosen by random number generator I would dearly love help with the naming and/or border design of this quilt.
btw if you don't happen to win a copy of the magazine you can always order one from here if your local newsagent doesn't get it in. Don't leave it too long as the first issue is totally sold out. Also if, like me, you prefer digital versions you can order that from the same place... I don't think they are available from the newsagents... well definitely not from my little old newsagent.

Love your petal rectangular block ~ quite floral too. The blocks go together for a great quilt. I would add some of the triangle/diamond shapes as part of the border design.

What a great block! And a perfect scrap buster. How sweet you named it after your son's gf. I think a simple border, maybe 3" wide in red would look really nice. It's so busy and fun, it just needs something simple to finish it.

I'm not good at coming up with creative names for quilts. So, I'm going to answer #2 with a "plain" border framing the quilt itself out so that it will not look too busy. :-)

I also saw a flower field and I think I would not add a border but just bind it and let the flowers speak. It's a fabulous quilt.
The quilt makes me think of stars in the galaxy. How about Star Explosion or Our Galaxy? I'm not too adventurous, so I would probably do a plain border or one with a variety of the fabrics used in the quilt.

Wow,such a beautiful pattern! I would have to play around with it to decide for sure what kind of border I would use, but my first thought would be wedge shaped pieces using the colors that are in the quilt. Not sure if that would be too busy or not. If it was, then a plain solid border using one of the colors from your quilt. I am sure you will be able to figure that one out since you came up with such a beautiful design.
Wow! Your block is so striking. I would have to stare at the quilt for a while before coming up with a name although I like the idea of using your son's girlfriend's name.
Kind of reminds me of spokes in a wheel. names are too hard for me, if I come up with one, if feels like I have solved world peace. I really like it tho, and it will be one on my "list" for sure. (As so many are...)that is one problem with these block mags...

I would try to extend only the large stars from the secondary design into the border using the same fabric. And I would choose a neutral fabric for the rest of the border. Naming it after your son's girlfriend is a nice gesture.
The more I look at the block, the more it fascinates me. The two interlocking designs are wonderful. The first name that popped into my head was Daisy Chain - it looks like row after row of flowers. Love it!!

The quilt looks beautiful. I would name it Fancy Gears. It is hard to think of the border, a plain one would be too plain , maybe a scalloped border.
I love the scrappiness. It reminded me of wildflowers bursting into spring, so I would call it something like "Burst of Blossoms."

The quilt reminds me of one that used to be on my grandmother's bed...not exactly like it but it makes me think of simpler days gone by. I see the seconday diamonds when the blocks are put together so Khanam in the Sky with Diamonds would be my name for it.

With all the reds, whites and blues and stars, it looks very "old timey" patriotic. The quilt reminds me of one that would be hung over a white wicker chair on a front porch for the 4th of July.

I like your quilt - but can't figure out how I'd finish it.
I have had your quilt up on my computer screen looking at it. Here is an idea that may or may not work but here goes. Take the lighter colors and make a one and a half inch inner border framing the entire top. Take the darker colors and randomly in large sections sew them together mitering the corners for the border. Thanks for the chance at the mag.
That quilt is such a beauty! Love the secondary designs that come by putting the blocks together. I would probably use a plain colored border with maybe some pinwheel-type flowers on a vine surrounding it on opposite sides, tying in with the pinwheels on the inside. Can't wait to see your block in the magazine.

The block is beautiful and reminds me of a beautiful floor you would see in a church. No help with the name, sorry. The quilt has a lot of motion, so I would use a plain matching border, somewhere for your eyes to rest.

Flower POW-er--the images just pop.
I envision an inner thin border of repeated dark elongated diamonds like the ones formed at the center of the intersection of each pair of blocks. Does that make sense?
Blooming Stars. I see both flowers and stars in the quilt! The blocks looks difficult to make, and it will be fun to see how it is put together when the magazine gets out!
My DH thinks this quilt looks like Country Wild Flowers. My son says it should be called Star Flowers and I say Celestial Flowers or perhaps Celestials Blooms, yeah, the latter.
Oh my gosh! I just LOVE the quilt made using your block. It's awesome! I am horrible at naming things, thus my cat who ended up with the name Baby given that's what we called him while deciding on a name. It took so long I couldn't bear to change it since he was already running to me when I called him Baby. LOL
Anyway, the first thing I thought of when I saw the full quilt created with the block was daisies or flowers. But looking closer it doesn't look like that at all so my name for your quilt would be Hidden Flowers (or Daisies)

I like this block which looks like circles without any curved piecing. Since it looks like circles, I think the border should be something simple.
I would call your quilt Star in the Round.
Stars and Swirls. Although a play on Spokes could be fun as well - the circles remind me of bicycle wheel spokes for some reason. :)

Beautiful top! I would call the quilt Persian Flower Garden. (Or Dreams of Persia, but I like the other name better for the play on Grandmother's Flower Garden.) For a border, I would have a double border...the inner would be the dark fabric (or close) from the quilt, and the outer border (same width as the inner, neither extremely wide) would use scraps from the flower petals.
I love your block. I would do a plain border with a simple motif in each corner at most. Maybe an eight pointed star to reference the star in the petals. An intricate border would detract from the beauty of the blocks, in my opinion. Thanks for the giveaway and congratulations on being chosen for the magazine.

The wheel design of the block looks like slices of pineapple. So I think the quilt should be called pineapple unside down cake. The borders should be a soft butterscotch yellow and binding in a warm chocolate brown.

Based on the block name and my impression of stars and flowers, I would call the quilt Star Blossom Surprise.

I would do a combination of borders - a solid, then maybe something simple like a soldier course or a rail fence, then another solid.
And I have to say I like the suggestion from Patty D from NC "Watch Works". I was thinking something with gears but also saw the stars in the background. Very nice effect.

Your quilt looks quite busy to me; I would either make a simple small border with one of the colors from the block or I would just bind it without a border on it.

I haven't finished my first quilt yet and I wouldn't know where to start putting a border on something so complex but I would suggest peicing it to a straigt simple edge to frame the design and make it the focus. Good luck.

Very interesting block. I don't think you want anything too fussy for the border. Maybe a 1" dark border first to set it off & then just some 4-6" rectangles (vertical on the sides & horizontal on the top & bottom)from the quilts fabrics. Thanks for the chance to win the magazine.
It looks like the tile floors in the churchs or cathedrals in England. Needs a pieced border of triangles. Title needs something like the Rest on Sunday!
